Black Marble and White Stone

Thoughts in black and white
Black marble in white sand
white pearls and velvet gems.
A tear sliding down one’s cheek,
kisses that tasted bitter sweet.
A bed of roses and a crown of thorns,
a legacy of prejudice hard as stone.
Notes of a song we do not know,
a story that should have been our own.
Sparkling sky and fireflies,
dreams and hopes as old as time.
A child in the mother’s womb,
faith in a better world.
A white stone in black sand,
black pearls and white gems.
Tears and kisses, wormwood and honey,
the world will stop but only for money.
