dead malls
abandoned and neglected malls
I have no incentive
to be a consumer
on a Saturday afternoon…
it was once nice
to walk around and explore
but what happened
to all the decent stores?
shops closing down,
bootleg copycat businesses
replacing the real deal
what happened to the glory days
of the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s malls?
when you could spend hours
just roaming, relaxing, browsing, discovering…
stopping by the arcade with a pocket full of coins
or finding a music gem at Sam Goody
or a new movie at Suncoast
even the GAP and Old Navy kinda suck now
fuck, these stores are so depressing
no, not even a solid Game Stop either
and the staff working in these places,
if there are any at all, are paid so poorly
that all they really feel like doing
is acting like they’re working when they think
their manager isn’t looking, hell that’s what I’d do…
god, if the Barnes & Noble closes down
that’ll be the end of it, I’ll never buy
anything in real life again
what will even be the point?
even the air conditioning sucks
on a summer day, heat wave, forget it
you might as well go to church —
at least it’s under 75 degrees in there
and you can find a place to sit
with better lighting, not the heinous
fluorescent shit that drives you mad…
the foodcourts—totally dead
it’s all shitty pizza and cold chinese
if you want a decent bite you gotta spend
your entire paycheck
at PF Chang’s or Cheesecake Factory…
no one wants to go to the mall…
