entropic universe

whenever I feel all locked-in by order
or suffocated by too much structure,
I just have to remember
that the laws of physics are on my side,
how entropy is the rule,
and that chaos reigns supreme…
all organized systems inevitably deteriorate,
all great things eventually go the way
of the Roman Empire, sooner or later…
things go to ruin, life falls apart
this is an entropic universe
even if you live in a society
that is in love with ticking boxes,
know that the ink on the page will fade
and all you’ll be left with is open space…
sure, matter self-organizes
but only because it likes to disperse energy
we build sandcastles, only to wash them away
men construct bombs, only to blow things up…
but wild nature still wins the day!
order only exists to promote disarray
even life itself can be viewed as an
instrument for the dispersal of energy,
continually replicating itself in order
to consume or destroy
anything that stands in its way…
that’s what you’re here to do,
to get all inspired and fired up,
to come up with ideas and plans,
to put them into action, so you can,
as they say, move fast and break things,
to blaze trails and break molds,
not to sit still and grow mold…
though, even that is entropy at work…
so go! ride that wave of creation!
and don’t be afraid!
smash those fucking castles to the ground
