fear of the individual

when there is a fear of the individual
the best way to keep everyone in check
is to keep them in a life cycle of service
and suffering — their every move
determined, dictated by somebody else…
they’ll say it’s in pursuit of higher goals
or of values greater than oneself
they’ll cite god and family and republic
they’ll go on about values and the future
but what is it really, other than the
imposition of control, the cementing
of a sickeningly paralytic status quo…
be skeptical of bogus policies
be wary of pointless inquisitions
manage your own fucking affairs
and stay away from bullshit initiatives
the lowly serfs in medieval times
didn’t work half as hard as you do
and yet we say we live in the most advanced
time in the history of planet earth
how does that make any sense?
advanced in technology maybe,
but very little else, especially since
we don’t use technology to promulgate
happiness — our potential for true caring
and open mindedness has been lost
and that’s something to be ashamed of…
but most people won’t acknowledge
that a problem even exists,
or that a spiritual stasis has set in
I’ll tell you this, art and creativity
are not supposed to be so painful…
for such fruitful efforts
we must demand what we deserve…
hatred, suspicion, resentment
shouldn’t be the only glue that binds us
we shouldn’t be obliged to pretend —
instead we must be brave enough
to close the overwhelming gap…
