Frozen Fire
a poem

This is it — the moment of light
when the snow spills out of my mouth
maple syrup cries from my eyes
a cold song
dripping from fir needle lashes
hands of wood
glisten with pitch
home for insects
ambassador to blue jays
I dispense peanuts
whistling a tune
they all know me by now.
Ice crystals crunch underfoot
I take a walk despite my knee
observing the violent clouds
leave off the mountains
as sunrise paints the snow
with frozen fire.
