Hard Problem

Of consciousness, we don’t know why
thought itself has a subjective side.
For when we laugh and jump
and talk and sing
there’s a certain way it feels to do these things.
Now if you ask me
whether my Macbook Pro
has feelings too, then I’d say no.
Machines can store and predict and calculate,
but can they ever ruminate?
That’s the question to worry about.
Because our minds represent the last safe place —
the last haven of privacy.
And soon, that will be gone too…
