I miss seeing
growth in pain,
and strength
in suffering.
I miss hearing
loving teachers
in failure’s voice.
I miss calling
inadequacy
“brilliance,”
and the tombstone
that crushed
my dreams and hopes
a “worthy burden,”
before they crumbled
beneath its weight.
And
I miss wishing
peaceful rest
to the departed
when I still knew
the meaning
of those two words.
