not in a good way
…
you get me high
and not in a good way
coiled up tight
wired til five
up all night
not in a good way
hey hello goes on
long after you’re gone
and not in a good way
nervous
system ringing
singing
outta tune
in the in-between
everything you choose
to not say
no sweat, huh?
even though it’s not the small stuff.
unspoken
words
echo
a reminder
of all
that’s passed
between us
in the emptiness
of our exchange
our spoken words
are magnificent -
magnified by insignificance
of any kind of truth
or even reality
an intentionally abandoned
mutually avoided history
you can’t rewrite it
by ignoring it you know -
or are you really somehow able to
forget?
there’s no music here
in the silent sounds
of the things we don’t say
I love you means nothing
when you see
the writing on the wall
in cold past midnight
shards of moonlight
as the world turns until
we find ourselves still
here
again
