those summers
where there was nothing to do
where the whole day was
inventing games with your friends
collecting bugs in jars
shooting hoops
and going back inside
to play video games
until your parents came home
don’t you miss it?
no, not really

so he just stopped answering the phone
I mean, why would he?
the money was gone
no more job to do
no nothing
the future he envisioned
was no more
the whole thing was a wash

he couldn’t remember the last time
he had more than two grand
in his checking account
it must have been years
