The Other World

The spirit said to me,
‘We do not care for you,
we who lived so long ago,
we still have much to do,’
and as she floated upwards
not a moment did she pause,
for she had much to deal with,
struggles from an immortal cause.

So serene was she,
a phantom beauty, absolute,
I wished to ask her more,
but her visage left me mute;
are all souls left to linger?
Are we forever tied to earth?
Is there solace in the spirit realm,
or are we doomed from birth?

But never will I ask,
a chance appearance was most rare,
so I must wait to die,
and try to find her there.
I will practice patience,
I will enjoy what life remains,
until my body gives its last,
and can explore the ghostly plains.
