to mollify a rock

it’s called animism, he said…
have you ever tried to mollify a rock?
some things really are as pointless as they seem
same guy also said, variety gives you longer life
yep, it’s no secret, friend — don’t do the same thing
every day — it might kill you in the end…
don’t be obsessed with success or wealth either,
because you most likely won’t get any…
roaming, roaming, always roaming
escaping tigers, then hanging out
telling stories, no accidents…
no pollution, but also no TV
no need for pointless solutions
hmm… is that the kind of life for me?
no chores, but also no floors… think about it
have you noticed, most of what stores are selling
consists of total abstractions — life is now a kind
of video game where nothing is made or grown
or lovingly crafted with heart and soul
and all we do is try to score points
and then crawl back down into our little holes
to recover, to rest from all the tiredness,
from all the fatigue, from all the effort it takes
for us to keep running away from the bad guys…
our world has been stripped down to code
we are data and code, we are graph and template
we are simulacrum, we are reiteration…
we are reduced to liquid dripping from a valve
living in a timeless present, never getting to taste
the fruits of our truest labor, efficiency and
rationality governing all decisions, always lying
about the things they’re doing, it’s all about the how
— they get you lost in how they’re doing what…
