Poetry

Photo by Artur Aldyrkhanov on Unsplash

a chair upon the top of the world
tufted and pillowed for ease
looking down upon lands and seas
sitting tall knowing not what to
make of everything and everyone
startled though by the immense
beauty of all of nature
wanting to ride the oceans
to sit in awe of faraway places
but the chair is stuck
glued to the world’s highest point
the body pressed and sealed to the seat
as if someone deliberately put another there

for what reason?
to see what gods or angels see?
to be one with the stars of heaven above
all else?

maybe to punish one or for one to learn
that life and time are moving
sitting in a chair above the rest
becomes a lesson for everything
speeds by
everyone in a hurry
only sleep takes away the pain
of being fastened to a destiny unwanted
