She couldn’t stop it
not ’til the persecutors
roil in throbbing sands
of persecution
her gaze
shifts gingerly
from the brink of an hour glass
to the bottom

meteorologists
can’t attest much
to the geology of it
but they sure
like to foretell
changes in barometric pressure
and its effects on us
whatever became of those reports
of empirical penguins
carrying cardboard signs of protest
outside the zoo in Central Park
somebody
ought to follow up on that

suddenly the camera
tracks along 7th Avenue
and deep into the bowels of Penn Station
where it zooms in upon a man
wearing a weatherworn New York Knicks cap
and a remarkably alluring woman
sporting a trendy beige trench coat
and rose-tinted Ray-Bans
they’re
riding an escalator hand-in-hand upward
on their way to Madison Square Garden
