and why not watch it snow all night — the sound of static — the heat of reflection — harmonize with the old dial tone, hummmmmmmmm —

and why not watch the next episode — the story carries you on the owl’s wing — you’ve made it to western Utah on a bald tire before —

you’ve always quit before — the curl of smoke, the burn of it — eventually the ash of it — your addiction wants you dead and other warnings — a novel to break your wrist writing —

go ahead and call home — she said you always could — the phone, a wind-up toy — the cord is the right texture for chewing — and you have time to change your mind —

that tire’s gonna blow and other warnings — a second edgy album to tear the drums pounding — you liked school too much to dare all the way — down the canyon where vitamins saved your soul —
