The 3rd meeting of the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators took place in Mexico City from March 30th- April 1st. But what comes next for the group?

Here is the final work plan so far, as decided on Day 3 of the meeting:

1) The Tier System — The IAEG-SDGs will finalize the initial tier system by the end of July 2016.

2) Creation of sub groups — The data disaggregation subgroup of the IAEG will be created by April 15, 2016. Three other working groups under the IAEG are to be created by April 15, 2015.

3) Global Indicator Framework — The UN General Assembly and the UN Economic and Social Council will begin the process of adopting the global indicator framework. Once completed, the IAEG will take into account specific proposals for refinement, based on the Statistics Commission decision ‘1e’.

4) A plan for review — of the indicator framework will be developed and presented to the 48th Session of the Statistical Commission.

5) Tier 3 methodoligies by agencies — International agencies must submit developed methodologies for Tier 3 indicators by September 15, 2016.

6) Scenarios on dataflows — The IAEG will provide scenarios on data flows to improve reporting mechanisms. Regional commissions and regional bodies of international agencies will also be part of this process.

7) Beginning implementation — The 4th meeting of the IAEG-SDGS will be held in October 2016. This meeting marks the beginning stages of implementing the SDG indicator framework agreed on by the Statistical Commission earlier this year.
