Data for the successful implementation of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals must come from many different sources, and cover many different areas of sustainable development: demographic and physical data, data from organizations and nations, and even financial and philanthropic data, showing where funding is coming from, where it is going, and who needs it most.

SDGFunders.org is an initiative led by Foundation Center, United Nations Development Programme, and Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, and supported by various foundations and organizations.

SDGFunders has created the SDG Philanthropy Platform, focused on encouraging and facilitating collaboration and partnership, and providing data and knowledge for philanthropists, organizations, and governments to achieve effective development outcomes. The SDG Philanthropy Platform provides a visualization of financial data for each of the 17 SDGs.

One feature of the SDG Philanthropy Platform is the ability to illustrate and compare philanthropic funding for the Millennium Development Goals in 2000–2015 to the current funding of the SDGs. This comparison is necessary to see where funding comes from, where it does the most good, and to continue to seek the best financial structures for the SDGs using past experiences.

Financial data is important to the successful implementation of the SDGs. Transparent and updated philanthropic data is essential for gauging the success of the SDGs on the road to achievement.
