Next steps for the Inter-agency Expert Group on SDG Indicators

Since the 3rd meeting of the Inter-agency Expert Group on the Sustainable Development Goal indicators, known as the IAEG-SDGs, in late March and early April, multiple outcome documents have been added to the UN Statistic’s Division IAED-SDG’s official site. Many of these presentation documents succinctly outline the agreements and next steps developed over the meeting period.

Official work plan and next steps. Highlights:

  • The initial tier system for indicators, with all revisions and proposals from countries, will be finalized by July 29, 2016
  • Once indicator framework is adopted by the UN Economic and Social Council and the General Assembly, IAEG-SDG will begin the process for refinement and develop a plan for review, to be presented at the 28th Session of the Statistical Commission
  • the 4th meeting of the IAEG-SDGs will be held in the fall of 2016
