This week in #SDGs counting- May 26th, 2017
Our roundup of what we’ve found and what we’ve been reading this week.
1.The latest Returns on Investment Podcast from Impact Alpha looks at investor attitudes toward the Sustainable Development Goals two years on. It appears that as monitoring requirements for the goals take a more definitive shape, financial institutions are becoming more organized around the valuable framework provided by the Global Goals.
2. We’ve continued updating the new indicator lists for the Global Goals, completing Goal 7, Goal 8, Goal 9, and Goal 10 this week. Not many indicators have been significantly changed since last summer, but even small wording changes can mean a lot for the future of monitoring.
3. A recent interview with Dr. Claire Melamed of the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data is a great round up for the past few weeks of conversations and events around technology, Big Data, and partnerships for monitoring the SDGs.
4. Released this month, the latest Global Governance Spotlight focuses on SDG 11, and how cities are making strides to measure the SDGs for themselves. The report is titled “Indicators for Cities, Localizing the SDGs”.
5. Continuing the theme of self-monitoring and local measurement, the International Institute for Sustainable Development SDGs Knowledge Hub reports on two real-world examples of communities setting benchmarks and indicators in order to track their progress toward the SDGs. In San Jose, California, various partners are developing a Data Dashboard to track the city’s alignment to SDG priorities; in Winnipeg, Canada, the Peg initiative looks to measure community well-being using health, education, transport, and environmental indicators.
