Upcoming SDG Related Reports
The top reports to pay attention to in 2022 for information on our progress to achieving the Global Goals
Each year UN agencies and other stakeholders release hundreds of reports outlining achievements, challenges, and findings related to work around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Last week we published our list of top events to follow in 2022. Here is our list of top reports to look out for.
World Social Report
Expected to be released later in February, the World Social Report by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) explores trends and policies impacting socio-economic matters globally. Expect to find the report on the Division for Social Policy and Development website where you can also find previous reports.
Financing for Development Report
In April, the UN Inter-agency Task Force on Development will release their annual report on financing the SDGs. The 2021 report warned that COVID-19 could lead to a “lost decade.” We look forward to their updated projection now that the world is more than two years into the pandemic.
World Population Prospects Report
The UNDESA will release the World Population Prospects report in June of this year outlining population estimates and projections. This administrative data serves as a starting point for global models and informs development activities.
Sustainable Development Report
Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), in collaboration with Bertelsmann Stiftung, have created the SDG Index Dashboard to help provide country and goal specific insights into SDG progress. Additionally, in June, they release an annual report highlighting progress.
Sustainable Development Goals Report
Every year in July during the High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), the UN releases their SDG progress report. It includes a healthy mix of well-produced infographics as well as insightful narrative on each of the 17 Goals. Last year’s report is linked below.
Voluntary National Reviews
Also released during the HLPF, the Voluntary National Reviews serve as countries’ best opportunity to report on their progress and priorities related to implementing the Global Goals. Forty-five nations are currently set to release theirs. These will be available in July.
Multi-dimensional Poverty Index
Generally released in July by Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the MPI explores 10 indicators across Health, Education and Living Standards to paint a more comprehensive picture of global poverty, its causes, and projected changes.
Goalkeepers
Released annually by the Gates Foundation ahead of Global Goals Week in September, this report offers an important perspective on the world’s work related to the SDGs from outside the UN. It generally combines a review of progress and projections of future possibilities.
We chose to highlight these articles because of the breadth of issues they address. Throughout the year numerous significant reports will be released with specific focus on one or more of the Global Goals. Our team will report on those as they become available.
