The NYC Service Design Collective was initiated in April 2018 by an informal group of designers working in-house and independently across industries in NYC. We are an open group of design passionate that realized the need of creating spaces and times for discussion on design and to meet other professionals to compare and discuss experiences and think together about the future of our practice.
We do that by organizing events that bring together SD academics, professionals and enthusiasts. Once a month (sometimes more!) we meet through panel discussions, workshops and happy hours. We facilitate these events and we grow our community by inviting new friends to use our platform for proposing event formats and new content.

Our goal is to support the spread of knowledge while having an open conversation around common challenges and big wins for the SD industry and SD individuals. We are gathering the insights from our events around specific topics that are relevant in the NYC context and we are working to create programs to support small and large businesses accessing Service Design resources. Topics that we are focusing on include Social Impact, Strategy for Spatial Design, Design for Policy , Service Design for SME.

Since November 2019 after a semester of very successful events, we became a Service Design Network local chapter to wider the conversation on Service Design with the global community and be a local point of reference for the SDN members in NYC.
