The Golf Match Of The Century
The unflappable vs. the upstart Whye Waite
As written in the Missouri Republican Gazzette
Ladies and gentlemen, please gather round to hear the tall tale of all tales.
Saunter up to the bar with your favorite beverage and witness the telling of this region’s most extraordinary golf match, a most impressive event indeed.
The gauntlet was hastily thrown down during a recent social conversation between Hogg and Waite, a gauntlet not taken lightly by the young Waite.
Hogg had, a matter of factly, stated his recent prowess around the golf links, having taken his bright-eyed son to the woodshed in a highly publicized golf match.
Waite, not one to back down from a challenge, cordially agreed to a golf match the following day. Match play was the game of choice.
Hole 1.
Hogg dribbles his tee shot (and maybe a few dribbles down his ill-fitting shorts) into the waiting pond. Waite giggles, strides to the tee, and wallops a two hundred and sixty-yard drive straight down the middle.
“Harry, would you like my help in finding your ball?” Quips Waite with a giggle.
“Piss off!” Hogg snorts.
