Art today. Gone tomorrow.

Some of the best street artists from Denmark and around the world have been invited to do their own ornamentation of the usually bland Frederiks Allé during Aarhus Festival. The artists are decorating five by five meter wooden walls set up on and around the usually busy street in the center of the city.

Kevin Johnson (Canada) has a very distinct style. His murals in Aarhus have ties to his background as a renowned tattoo artist.

The modern graffiti and street art has its origin in New York City. The city that never sleeps has given us various forms of art including hip-hop and breakdancing. The illegality of the art form is still very evident. Even though the artists have been commissioned for their work and are working in broad daylight, some of them still go by their aliases and ask to have their faces kept hidden from the camera.

Austrian artist Ruin. He lost his bag en route to Denmark and consequently had to make due with just one cap for his paint cans. In spite of these limitations, it’s difficult to argue, that the work is characterized by it.

Go for a walk in the park of murals outside the town hall with a soda or beer in hand and experience the talented artists at work using vastly different techniques and expressions.

Danish artist Martin Paaskesen. His murals are inspired by great painters such as Matisse and Picasso. His geometrical form of expression, combined with an impulsive and improvised method of approach, will hit you with a blast of impressions.
The impermanence of street art examplified.
Peter Birk: Curator and artist at the Street Art Festival, tattoo artist and founder of artist collective Grisk.
