Shroom Smoothie and Smooth Dance Moves

Text and photos by Sophie Voisin

A few people are sitting on a big ramp. The bass from a nearby concert makes the ground vibrate. Some are chatting silently as if not to disturb the four men on the small stage. Suddenly the ground stops vibrating. A can of beer explodes as it’s drops to the ground. A guitar is being tuned.

On thursday evening, the band performs a new song for the first time. It was written the night before.

Thursday night, a small crowd decided to skip the party at the nearby Marvelous Mosell concert, to enjoy a more intimate show at Godsbanen. The band on stage is Shroom Smoothie. As the crowd comes closer to the stage, the guitarist asks them to come closer. He wants to see them dance.

Shroom Smoothie describes themselves as a ’sonic adventure composed of deep-fried funk, sautéed with raving mad riffs.’ And while the band members are constantly dancing around, the crowd stands still, with their eyes on the band. Except from one man. He’s dancing, constantly spilling his beer, when he claps or shakes his hips.

Excitement and laughter spreads to the crowd when he jumps on stage, to dance with the lead singer. Suddenly, hands are thrown in the air. A young girl picks up her phone and sends a snap to her friend. A man grabs his girlfriend and they kiss under the stage lights. The beat gets faster. Faster. The next song is called ”Bitch”. The singer shakes his head and screams. And the crowd starts dancing.

A man jumps on stage to dance with the lead singer and show the crowd his moves.
