Our SearchMyDocs product is all about making your professional life more productive by enabling you to find the documents you want, faster.

As we all use more software clouds — the average company has 34! — SearchMyDocs lets you search all these from a single location. We go a bit further than that though, and so I thought I’d explain some of these ‘search smarts’ in a short article.

Search Across Locations and Contacts

This is the main raison d’etre of SearchMyDocs. We have a list of 50+ 3rd party apps which we support search across from a single location. Dropbox, Gmail, Slack, Evernote, etc.

SearchMyDocs indexes your Slack and email conversations, making sure that you can search across them from a single location. Search across all your file storage clouds too. This includes file storage, note-taking apps and more.

Over and above just searching across different clouds, we support search across your team or organization. Searching across files your teammates have decided to share or make available to groups within your wider organization makes it easy to find exactly what you need, when you need it.

In addition to cross-cloud search, SearchMyDocs also lets you search all your devices. Connect your smartphones and desktop computers to get a single point of search across all those different physical devices. This can be really handy when combined with the facial recognition search (see below) that surfaces the photos you could never find before!

OCR applied to all images and PDFs

SearchMyDocs always aims to ensure that your digital life becomes ever more searchable, particularly as your digital files portfolio continues to grow and will do indefinitely into the future as everything in our lives becomes more bits and bytes.

We run your images and PDFs through our OCR tools to make sure that these files appear in the search results when needed, alongside more traditionally ‘searchable’ documents.

Video and audio become searchable

Video and audio are really rich mediums for data transference, but they aren’t always that easy to refer back to or search across. SearchMyDocs makes your video and audio files searchable by running them through our sound to text servers.

This means that you can easily find the content you need in the future, even if it was shared within a video or audio file. You can plan the files in the search results too.

Find family & friends in photos

SearchMyDocs runs your images through our image recognition servers. This lets you identify faces, and then put a name to the face.

From the get-go you can more readily find the images that matter by searching for sex and age ranges. You can then tag people so that in the future you can search for them by name.

SearchMyDocs is your photo search solution for the long term, meaning you never lose your photos.

Making Native Search Better

The above ‘smart search’ indexation processes we run let us provide a fantastic search experience on SearchMyDocs. Over and above this however, we are able to feed some of this data back to users’ accounts on third party platforms.

For example, one of our supported file storage partners doesn’t have OCR capabilities. For their users who have a SearchMyDocs account, we can feed the metadata we extract during the indexing process back to the source file storage platform, making search better there too.

If you’d like to know some of the specifics of the technology we use for this you can find more via our support center, as well as signing up for a free SearchMyDocs trial.
