Something Beautiful for the World

Yesterday I shared, in the form of a tweetstorm, a very personal commitment I made to myself within minutes of learning I had tumors growing all over my organs to make something beautiful for the world. It’s embedded below. But I wanted to share, that yes I do understand how unrealistic and challenging it is to meaningful reach billions or even just millions of people. I’m greatly daunted by what I could possibly do to share something beautiful at a global or even national scale. So a realist could easily think this is a simple-minded aspiration I will surely fail at. And I likely will fail to achieve it, but you need to know this about me: I too am a realist, I am, however, a rational idealist. So first and foremost, I am an idealist. I want society to rise up to it’s most perfect form (from my perspective of course), but rationally I understand all the reasons why it can’t and it’s not. I’m always going to shoot for the ideal, and then use rationality to determine what can actually be achieved. I’m also be an optimist, which helps me push towards achieving more than most could be expected, but I don’t want to waste my time or emotions any more than the next person and my realism grounds me to avoid can’t be done.

If you have any suggestions or thoughts after reading the tweet storm please by all means add them in the comments.

But as much as I’d love to build way for every person to share themselves and their hopes for the world I know the scope of the project, the challenges of connecting people without smartphones, ensuring the bad guys could never abuse such a directory, and my own unknown mortality all make this a bigger project than I should likely start, but I love how such a needed thing came about by a) the school kids happen to be walking by as I was tweeting on my sunny front steps. b) the dynamism of living in a city c) my whimsically naming the lariat they’re holding a “together rope” and d) my twitter readers thinking about what a together rope could be for the word.

So I closed the so called tweet storm with the rational:

Nonetheless, I’ll be looking for a simple sparsely worded or achieved meme (either message or image) and I surely will be trying to whittle down the Global Together Rope idea to see how it could be made just small enough that it could be made at all.

PLEASE continue any thoughts in the comments of this post or in messages with me.

🙏✊💛,

Ted
