Patapan

A fun Children’s Christmas carol

This song is unfamiliar to many — for some reason that I do not know. Like several carols, it was originally French. There are several versions floating around, I will put my favorite.

Willie, take your little drum and your whistle long and come;

when we hear the fife and drum, ture-lure lu lu lu, Pata-pata-pan,

When we hear the fife and drum, Christmas should be frolicsome.

_

Thus the men of olden days for the King of Kings to praise;

When they hear the fife and drum, ture-lure lu lu lu, pata-pata-pan,

When they hear the fife and drum, sure our children won’t be dumb.

_

God and man are now become more at one than fife and drum;

When your hear the fife and drum, ture-lure lu lu lu, pata-pata-pan

When you hear the fife and drum dance and make the village hum!
