SeaX Ventures, a deep-tech venture capital fund known for its investments in groundbreaking technologies, has announced its investment in Active Surfaces, a company that stands at the forefront of innovation in rooftop solar technology. This investment signifies SeaX Ventures’ commitment to supporting cutting-edge technologies that have the potential to revolutionize industries.

Active Surfaces is addressing the limitations faced by silicon photovoltaic (PV) panels in rooftop solar applications. While silicon PV is effective for utility-scale solar farms, its weight and labor-intensive installation make it less suitable for rooftop settings. This gap in the market presents a unique opportunity for Active Surfaces, which specializes in developing thin-film PV technology, including advanced perovskite modules.

Active Surfaces is leveraging thin-film PV technology to create single-junction perovskite modules, aiming to achieve the lowest levelized cost of energy (LCOE) for rooftop installations. This focus is particularly tailored to the commercial and industrial (C&I) market, differentiating Active Surfaces from competitors who primarily target utility-scale solar farms.

The booming e-commerce sector, with its growing need for distribution centers and warehouses, offers a substantial opportunity for the integration of solar rooftop systems. Moreover, incentives provided by the US Inflation Reduction Act, which supports domestic solar manufacturing, further bolster the potential for rooftop solar solutions.
