Keeping Secret safe

Since demystifying Secret, we’ve continued to implement several additional security enhancements. Our bug bounty program has been successful, helping us identify a dozen minor issues that we’ve promptly fixed.

Today, we’re releasing an update that further helps keep Secret a safe place to share openly with your friends.

Swipe right to love. Spreading love on Secret should be effortless. When you find a Secret that you like, just swipe your finger to the right to heart it.

Swipe left to subscribe. Sometimes you see a secret and want to follow the conversation without commenting. Other times, you want to stop receiving notifications altogether. Just swipe left on a secret to subscribe or unsubscribe.

Flag. You should have a say in the kinds of posts you want to see on Secret. If and when you see a post that you feel is inappropriate, swipe left and tap “Flag” to provide feedback on it.

Remove. If you want to remove a secret altogether from your stream, tapping “remove” will clear it out. If you happen to be the author, it will be deleted for everyone.

Unlink. It takes a lot of courage to share your innermost thoughts and feelings. If you’re ever worried about something you’ve posted, there’s now a “big red button” that will remove any association between you and all of your previous posts on our servers. If you do this, you’ll no longer be able to comment as the author on, receive notifications about, or delete unlinked secrets.

You have proven that great things can happen when identity is removed from the equation. As the saying goes, with great power comes great responsibility — we all need to do our part in shaping Secret’s community.

We’re listening, so keep your feedback coming. Have a suggestion or a question? Email us at concierge@secret.ly.
