Hello all,

It has been clear from the beginning that, although sector generation is a great tool, a lot of game masters end up rolling their own sector for one reason or the other. Sectors Without Number can now handle building a sector from a blank canvas.

Then we come to the problem of sharing and syncing a sector across devices. You’ve put all this hard work into creating your sector just how you like it, so you should absolutely be able to share that to your players and the world.

But first…

Add/Remove Systems

The first step to building your own sector is to actually be able to add and remove systems.

Add a system by clicking and holding on an empty hexagon in the main sector view. From there you will be able to select a name and number of planets for your system.

Add System From Sector View

The option to delete a sector is in the sidebar header when you have a system selected. This same delete functionality has been added to the planet view and entire sector view as well.

And finally we arrive at the sector builder. A new option on the configuration page initializes a blank sector if you’d like to roll your own from the ground up. Building and editing the systems and planets is the same as in the generate view.

User Accounts

From any page in the application you will have an option to log in or sign up in the top left corner. You will be presented options to log in via Facebook, Google, or the traditional email/password combination.

Login/Signup Workflow

If you already have a number of sectors saved locally, do not fear. Anything local will automatically upload after successfully signing in for the first time.

Sector Sharing

Once logged in and you are viewing a saved sector you will have the option to share the sector. The URL will be copied so you can paste that in a message to your friends. Anyone with the link can view your sector, but only you can edit it.

Wrapping Up

The user accounts update was a massive change to the application so if you stumble across something that is wrong please let me know either on Github or through the problem report form so I can get it fixed up as soon as possible.

Looking forward there are a lot of exciting new upcoming features. Here’s a list of the most exciting ones.

  • Alien, Faction, and Adventure Generation: Those planets need a little bit more flavor, don’t you think?
  • Private/Public Notes: Notes can be shared with your players or hidden for game master eyes only.
  • Additional Points of Interest: The revised edition has a lot of flavor options that can be added to a sector including space stations, asteroid belts, refueling stations, orbital ruins, and more. You should be able to add those points of interest anywhere in your sector.
  • Hidden Assets: A secret alien species exists on a remote planet and a derelict deep space station floats quietly through the expanse. Keep it hidden until your players stumble across it.
