Tulsa Christian School Expels 8-Year-Old Girl for Having a Crush on a Girl

Administrators say they were following the student handbook

An 8-year-old Tulsa, Oklahoma girl has been kicked out of her school after telling another girl she had a crush on her. That’s quite an extreme reaction.

Chloe, a second grader at Rejoice Christian School in Owasso, had a sit-down with a school administrator after the incident, and was told, “the bible says you can only marry a man and have children with a man,” according to Chloe’s mom. “They ripped my kids out of the only school they’ve ever really known away from their teachers and friends they’ve had over the past four years over something my daughter probably doesn’t know or fully understand,” Chloe’s mom, Delanie Shelton said.

While the administrators said they were following the student handbook when expelling Chloe, the handbook actually doesn’t mention expulsion for this type of situation. It only says that boyfriend/girlfriend relationships are prohibited.

I mean, come on… are these school administrators so afraid of homosexuality that they’d expel an 8-year-old just for telling another girl she had a crush on her? How fragile are these people? How fragile is their religion? How fragile is their god?

Is this how they nurture and develop a child’s faith and spirituality? By throwing her away as soon as she says or does something that’s not accepted by their belief system? I’m as anti-indoctrination as they get, but if the administrators are interested in developing kids into little Christian robots, they would counsel them and try to steer them toward what they think is the right path, rather than cast them away.

Or... and I’m just thinking out loud here… is this a subconscious admission that conversion therapy doesn’t work and we’re born with our sexual orientations, regardless of how much praying the gay away you force people to do?
