When we look at the 2022 event calendar for the NFT world, it was perhaps “event-full,” with several instances of speculation and trade drops fueled by the crypto winter. Yet, there were individual NFT collections that took the NFT space by storm and left a significant impact on their way to stay in 2023. Let us see the top collections among such impactful ones using data from Cryptoslam’s analytics.

10. Axie Infinity — US$ 291.1 million

2021’s big-time P2E game’s NFT collection has dropped significantly due to the multiple instances of breaches of its Ronin bridge and other hacks. The game managed to take the top 10 due to the improvements from the developers.

9. Sorare — US$ 318.1 million

The Web3 P2E soccer game’s NFT collection has stayed afloat in the space, leading 2021’s top-grosser in sports NBA Top Shot. Such an amount coming despite allegations against the game is indeed a record, and it is expected to grow with time.

8. Doodles — US$ 391.6 million

Launched last year, the Doodles PFP NFT collection has some ambitious goals to fulfill, including entertainment events and a metaverse-focused NFT drop. With work undergoing, the excitement kept the secondary trades running in 2022.

7. CryptoPunks — US$ 575.2 million

The ex-Larva Labs’ CryptoPunks NFT collection seemingly fell out of favor leading to their rights getting transferred to Yuga Labs, making it truly an NFT giant. Yet, the collection saw some big trades due to its longevity and the new owners’ work on IP commercialization rights.

6. CloneX — US$ 600.5 million

CloneX is another anime-inspired collection created by Takashi Murakami in association with RTFKT, the Web3 studio Nike owns. Adding to the collection’s look, RTFKT’s efforts to offer NFT holders benefits, such as Nike-sponsored airdrops, led to the collection’s success.

5. Moonbirds — US$ 613.4 million

Moonbirds is an NFT collection based on digital owl avatars, which was hyped highly before its launch, resulting in it gaining more than 600 million dollars. Its following up of the Buzzy Proof Collective NFTs is said to have some role in its fame.

4. Azuki — US$ 849.9 million

As an entirely new name appearing in the NFT world, Azuki managed to fetch a top rank due to its anime-inspired nature, garnering most of the value in the first half of the year until markets slowed down.

3. Otherside — US$ 1.1 billion

How can we skip the metaverse venture of the NFT giant Yuga Labs? The company’s metaverse, Otherside, garnered over a billion dollars with the sales of “Otherdeeds” (virtual plots) aided by its association with the ape collections.

2. Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) — US$ 1.14 billion

Another version of ape-themed NFTs from Yuga Labs occupies the second spot, mainly due to its association with the digital ape ecosystem. The collection’s abundant quantity fueled it to cross a billion dollars, despite its lower floor price.

1. Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) — US$ 1.57 billion

The ape-inspired 10,000-NFT collection from Yuga Labs still has the elusive number one spot, thanks to its celebrity status and the underlying firm’s ventures into the metaverse (Otherside) and cryptocurrency (Apecoin/$APE).

While the list might not paint the exact picture of running an NFT business, it is undoubtedly a good option, and many professional firms could aid in developing NFTs for you.
