Can you tell us a little about your background?

Hey there 👋

My name is Vladislav Alimpiev, most people just call me Vlad 😊

I am the Community Manager at Sedition.

I was born in St.Petersburg, Russia but I’ve spent all of my adult life studying and working in Finland and in the Netherlands.

My own background is fairly different from many of my colleagues at Sedition as I didn’t arrive to Sedition from the art world. I studied business at school and then spent almost three years working in marketing at a cryptocurrency exchange, which allowed me to see the evolution of the crypto industry first-hand.

Can you tell us when and why you joined Sedition?

When I started working in crypto back in 2019, the crypto scene was in a very different state of maturity than it is now — it was the time before aggressive institutional and even governmental adoption that started during the 2020–21 bull run. Decentralized finance and NFTs were not on anyone’s radar at that moment; so many innovations in the blockchain industry took place over the last two years! Seeing these exciting and fun developments in the blockchain sphere, I started to feel that crypto and blockchain are so much more than payments and a supposed inflation hedge — and I wanted to be working with that and explore that area more!

At the end of last year I applied to work for Sedition. I was excited about the idea of merging art and crypto communities and was very enchanted by the product. After several interviews and learning more about the company, I felt that it was the right move for me, so I accepted the offer and joined Sedition as community manager about half a year ago — and I’m loving it!

What is your current role and how would you describe your work?

As community manager, I am a part of the front office team, which is responsible for all outward facing Sedition communication, such as artist liaison, marketing, partnerships and community management.

Everyone in Sedition’s front office team has their own specific tasks and mine fall primarily in the range of community management. So I am responsible for Sedition’s event organizing — both IRL & virtual events, content creation and copywriting, partnership management (primarily crypto-related collaborations), advising on the NFT strategy and strategy in general, as well as other things when they come up!

What is the most exciting thing that you’re working on right now?

I am very excited that just over 2 weeks from now, Sedition is taking part at World Blockchain Summit Singapore as Presenting Sponsor! We’ll be making major announcements at the event about our NFT progress and we’ll be mirroring the announcements in our Discord server, so even if you’re not gonna be in Singapore then, you can still be engaged with us!

Events are very exciting because they allow us to learn more about and engage with the communities — both the blockchain crowd & the digital artists and art lovers. Sedition product is, above all, an experience. It is a product that you can read a thousand times about, or you can try using it once — and once you try it, you’ll love it! It’s gonna be awesome to see reactions to Sedition IRL.

What do you like most about your job?

Well, there are a couple of things.

First of all, I love how international both our team is and our community of artists, customers and prospective partners is! Art transcends international boundaries, art transcends cultures, and art transcends languages — it’s a universal language understood by all. I am excited to work as a part of Sedition’s diverse team where everyone comes from a very different background and upbringing. I also enjoy the fact that our artists, customers and prospective partners do represent a very vast swath of the contemporary art landscape.

Secondly, I really enjoy working with Sedition as it is a luxury product! Art is considered to be part of “Self-realization” on the pyramid of needs, representing the highest tier of human needs. When it comes to satisfying the highest tier of needs, people are certainly at the pickiest — which sets everyone’s work standard very high. Nothing can ever be done well enough or merely decent, everything needs to be excellent.

Lastly, I love that there is still lots for me to learn in the arts world! I’ve always been fascinated by arts and whenever traveling I enjoy going to museums and seeing the most exciting creations. However, when one starts working in a new industry, one inevitably faces a steep learning curve, and this challenge is exciting!

What do you think about the future of Sedition?

I think Sedition as a concept was conceived way before the time when digital assets could be viewed as scarce and valuable — we all remember the Internet of early 2010s as the Wild West! However, now with the advent of NFTs and with people living ever-larger parts of their lives online, a very exciting chapter of Sedition’s history is starting to unfold.

In my view, the future of Sedition looks incredible! There are many ideas and concepts to realize and it seems that our work is carved out ahead for a long time to come! Two factors that are contributing majorly to the future of Sedition in my opinion are:

  1. End of the pandemic is in sight

With normalcy returning to many countries around the world, public art displays are again starting up as people are coming back to offices and starting to travel again. In addition, blockchain and art events are also starting up after an almost two year pause.

2. Deep bear market

Ironically, I feel that it’s a good thing for us to start utilizing blockchain during the time of deep crypto bear market — when most declare crypto to be dead. It gives time to build without rushing an unfinished product to market to ride the wave and establishes credibility — bull market has so many projects that are launching for the sole purpose of making a quick buck and are using “blockchain” or “metaverse” as a buzzword.

So all in all, the future looks very exciting and I am looking forward to engaging with the community and meeting everyone!
