A brief tale on global impact

“How come we didn´t had that idea”?

Quoting a friend of mine while refering to the transportation services (Not so anymore) startup Uber, and it´s explosive growth in this months. It got me thinking, and for some minutes I stood there looking at nothing, but I came with an answer and it is the one I´d like to share with you all.

First of all, let me tell you some things about me; I´ve always described myself as a passionate guy, challenge lover and determined to change things for good. I live in a medium sized country in South America called Colombia, loved by some, hated by others, having created buzz in the past for unfortunate events involving violence and intolerance, but beginning to shine for it goals and ambitions.

Lets return to our first point:

I realized that in this complex, hyper connected and outstanding world, we are ALL competition, no matter the goals, specialty or vision, there will always be someone outside our reach, fighting for something quiet similar, if you are reading this, and you´re an entrepreneur, then we are probably rivals, even without nowing each other.

But I understood that even with a challenge as heavy as that, we live in this world, we fight for this world, we are placing our brains and our hearts in our vision, and our proyects. We didn´t had that “Uber inspiration”, but fighting for our dreams will allow our creations to be called companies, movements, big organizations, again young people will complain on “How come I..” with our own succes, and it will be our duty to guide that generation behind us achieve their own goals. Something different is going on here, and by here I mean everywhere. People are waking up, they are realizing that the only constant thing that exists; its change. A new mindset, with new movements, protests, creativity, unconformity, anti-status quo´ing, and such more.

I want to bring an example about those: Political innovation.

“¿What is democracy for the Internet era?” I came across a company that at first sight I couldn´t believe it was real, building the blocks and “changing the tool” of something as conservative as politics seems like another outstanding challenge, but they are, DemocracyOS is aiming to change the way people interact with the goverment, with once the high end decisions that mattered the most and could never be debated by us, just by the few.

In retrospective, it doesn´t matter if we are rivals, this is our home, and independently of our work, our competitors, and our strategies, we, as the crazy people we´ve become, are meant to change this world, we are in this task together.

And I couldn´t feel more honored to face it.
