Midjourney Introduces Panning

A New Approach To Outpainting

Just recently Midjourney AI joined the club of AI text-to-image generating tools that offer “outpainting”. And unlike DALL-E or StableDiffusion, you have to prompt Midjourney through Discord. It does offer certain benefits in the organization department. But the user interface can’t compete with standalone applications.

That’s why Midjourn has to come up with unique solutions like panning. So how does panning work?

The “Panning” Feature

It’s really simple. Once you have upscaled one of your generations, you will see four new buttons below:

Each of these buttons allows you to extend the image in your desired direction.

Unfortunately, you can currently only keep extending on the same plane. The image above is combined from four separate “panned” results.

But you can keep going either horizontally or vertically.
