The Panamanian MapTasking, a mobile platform able to track field-operations live, was selected as the best space startup at the Seedstars Summit, receiving USD 50,000 grant from Inmarsat and AP-Swiss.

For the first time this year, Seedstars has partnered with Inmarsat, a global leader in mobile satellite communication and AP-Swiss, the joint initiative of the European Space Agency and the Swiss Space Office to promote new satellite applications, to identify the most promising startups in emerging markets active in the space industry or leveraging satellite technologies.

Space Invasion

With the cost of satellite technology constantly decreasing, space is no longer just a playground of governments and powerful corporations. The number of satellites in orbit is reaching an all-time high. Space technologies can deliver huge benefits to startups, whether they are working directly with space applications, or in sectors such as agriTech or merchandising. However, people need to have access to these technologies and understand how to best integrate them.

For José Achache, Managing Director at AP-Swiss,

“Our partnership was an excellent way to discover the lively startup ecosystems of emerging countries and to connect with talented people who have activities related to our industry.”
