For the final appearance model for the immersive storytelling kit, the model will be made using a variety of materials and processes.

Weighing The Options

I went through various options to go about developing my final model:

OPTION 1:

Materials: Indy clay, fabric, padding (model of form) + 3D printed inserts, foam, zippers (optional), buckles

OPTION 2 (Chosen Option):

Materials: Yellow foam, fabric, fabric glue, 3D spacer mesh, zippers (optional), buckles,

OPTION 3:

Materials: Vacuum formed shell (needs wood mold), fabric, 3D spacer mesh, zippers (optional), buckles

OPTION 4:

Materials: 3D printed shell (scaled model), with 3D printed inserts (will not be looks like model)

Selecting an Option

The reason for choosing Option 2 as it served to be the most doable with the given time frame. Also taking into the amount of shop access I’ll have, most of the options will require some sort of machining, which will not be available unfortunately due to the strike.

For April 6:

  1. Model hard shell out of yellow foam
  2. Optional: Fill holes with polyurethane and/or gesso
  3. Sew together a strap
  4. If time permits → Glue fabric onto case

For April 11–19:

  1. Glue fabric and zippers to foam (using fabric glue)
  2. Glue felt onto interior of case
  3. Sew strap onto body of pack
  4. Glue on seams
  5. FINISHING TOUCHES!

The final model with be a looks like model with some semi-works like aspects.
