AI architect and speech technology expert, Michael Tjalve, joins Seed Vault Ltd, as advisor

It is a great pleasure to announce that Michael Tjalve is joining SEED as an advisor to help support our mission to democratize and decentralize artificial intelligence (AI). As an expert in speech and natural language technology, Michael will be instrumental in helping us put chat and conversational bots into the hands of more developers, companies and ultimately individual users. A passionate advocate of AI for social good, he will also bring some fantastic relationships to SEED, not just in the commercial sector, but also in connection with some of the most pressing humanitarian and social causes.

An assistant professor in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Washington, Michael has worked for almost two decades in the field of conversational AI, focusing primarily on turning disruptive innovation into engaging user experiences. Having worked in product strategy and management, research, and education in six different countries, he currently works as a Principal AI Architect in the AI and Research Group at Microsoft.

We believe that Michael’s mixture of academic and hands-on experience with integrated speech and language capabilities will help unlock exciting new benefits within bots for the broader populace. For example, by evaluating a user’s pronunciation, it’s now possible to have a spoken conversation with bots to learn languages and hone interview skills. That means bot technology really has the power to improve access to the quality of education for people everywhere.

Michael said, “I am pleased to be joining Seed Vault’s team of advisors to help advance SEED’s marketplace and ecosystem for AI and conversational user interfaces. I see the democratization of AI capabilities as a key factor in establishing the right conditions for positive societal impact. The nature of the job market is changing fast and new skills are frequently needed. Easily accessible opportunities for reskilling and continuous learning are therefore critical to counter the risk of job displacement. Conversational bots enable people to interact with technology and with content in new ways. With conversational learning bots, users can learn at their own pace anytime, anywhere, gradually developing their confidence in new skills. Learning bots also open up a whole new range of experiences for non-profit and humanitarian stakeholders working, for example, on improving learning opportunities for refugees in crisis situations or helping other vulnerable populations.”

He continued: “However, this is just the beginning. It’s vital that users trust the technology that powers bot interfaces. That trust starts with a better understanding of how it works and what it can do, and that is exactly why Seed Vault’s vision of an open AI future truly matters. The advantages of AI-powered solutions are becoming more evident each day, but better distributing the value behind our bot interfaces will ensure a more equitable, secure and privacy respecting bot economy.”

As AI continues to make the Internet more accessible, we believe a new generation of applications have the potential to aide some of humanity’s biggest problems. But to shape the future we must invent it. A future in which we deliver a truly equitable exchange with users of bot technology; a future where we’re rewarded for the data we provide and can manage our privacy effectively.
