Hindu rituals prescribe situational or occasional worships in form of Pooja and Havan, the later considered to be superior and quicker in achieving results.

Havan , Homa or Yajnya are synonyms for worship of deities done through fire. Often a havya (sacrificial element) such as rice, ghee are offered to fire chanting Vedic mantras.

Presence of ceremonial fire is pure and influential itself to cleanse attendees’ minds…

Hence only a few environmental rituals (kaanda) are required in such religious karma, which sometimes makes occasional homa even easier than pooja.

Agnihotra, for example, a ceremonial fire lighted at sunrise and sunset for a few minutes, does not even require you to take a shower. Most yagya do not need beetle nuts, leaves, flowers or any other cleansing rituals often done at the beginning of the devotional puja. They are only nice to have things.

Occasional or smalls scale homa can be performed at home in 1.5 to 2 hours.

Below is the list of some occasional homa (नैमित्तिक हवन). They can be performed with an objective in mind or simply for welfare of family or mankind. In modern times, a family should perform one or two of such homa every year to cleanse the house & mind and live a healthy, content life.
