This week on Seeking Wisdom, we’re talking about why David doesn’t agree with the phrase “product managers are CEO’s of their products”. It’s something that has been thrown out a lot in the past few months — but it doesn’t make sense.
CEOs are looking at one thing and product managers, another. The job of a PM is to be the voice of the customer, while the job of the CEO is to manage the direction of the company. There’s a difference.
For a company to run smoothly, you need to keep everyone focused on their own individual tasks. If product managers and CEOs have the same job, wires get crossed and things fall through the cracks. In short — it’s not good.
Also, we have some exciting news on our end.
In a few weeks we’re launching our first book — and just like all of our content at Drift, it’s going to be 100% free. If you’re on our email list at Drift, you’ll be the first to read it (all about the customer-driven revolution and why it’s the only way to build a business today). There’s a preview of the book in this episode :) We can’t wait for you to read it.
P.S. Here’s the link to the MailChimp story in the New York Times that we mentioned about their revenue and growth: www.nytimes.com/2016/10/06/techno…tart-up.html?_r=3
