Dear New Designer…

Joining a new job remotely can be… nerve-wracking. There’s a lot to take in — a lot of people to (remotely) meet, unspoken cultural cues to get onboarded to, and of course, lots to learn. At Segment, even though we’re getting more and more adjusted to onboarding new designers remotely, we always want to get better at creating a welcoming environment for our new teammates.

This exercise is our attempt at making onboarding just a little bit warmer for our new teammates — and hopefully, a little bit more fun, too 😁! We call it “Dear New Designer”. Each designer on our team wrote a letter to the new designer(s) joining our team in the months to come with advice and reflections of things we wished we knew when we started at Segment. It’s been such a valuable exercise in reflection of our own areas of growth and how we think about design at Segment as well.

Enjoy some small snippets of our reflections we shared with our new teammates below! Of course, to get the whole thing, you’ll have to join our team 😁. Conveniently, we are hiring!

So with that…

Dear new designer,

This kind of reminds me of that John Legend song 🎵
