How to actually make time for self care…

Reanne Derkson writes about the importance of utilizing self care to improve oneself.

“ No matter how run-down, burnt-out, or desperate you are for just a single moment to yourself, not everyone has the luxury of ditching work for a manicure (or an extended vacay at the lake). Sometimes self-care means taking care of business. But that doesn’t mean you still can’t make time for yourself.”

Derkson’s steps to self care include :

  1. Enjoy sacred morning moments
  2. Utilize your commute
  3. Use your breaks wisely
  4. Take a minute
  5. Try “do not disturb” mode
  6. Nourish yourself
  7. Wind down
  8. Get some sleep

Pro tip : Make a habit of scheduling your “you” time in your calendar. Even if it’s just a 15-minute bath, or a phone call with your BFF. I’m serious. Pen(cil) it in. Because if you’re anything like me, anything that’s not written in ink in my planner can easily get bumped or skipped for “more important things.”

I couldn’t agree more with what Derkson says, the points she makes throughout her article are valid towards the topic of self care. With these steps of self care the stress free life can be for everyone.

Scott Hanselman creates an idea of self care from a similar viewpoint that highlights other aspects as well. His steps to self care were brought up by multiple people that came from all different sides of the idea.

  1. Cancel a meeting
  2. Set up formal ‘me’ time
  3. Say no

Although these steps are a bit shorter they are still straight to the point and create an idea for readers to understand how to commit to self care through work and school and just life in general.
