The brain is very powerful. For us humans and other mammals the brain can be considered the factory hub. Every part of the brain is vital; Therefore, the brain must be healthy in all areas to function substantially. In “The Moral Mind,” Lehrer reflects on some of the ways in which our brains connects with our moral emotions and corresponding actions: “Our decisions reflect a clear cortical consensus… That the entire mind agrees on what we should do” (203). Lehrer emphasizes on our typical emotions and feelings. He thinks that our emotions are connected with the brain. When imaging a brain that has a emotional dysfunction I begin to realize how many individuals end up incarcerated or homeless. Lehrer also focuses attention on how our brain relies on process and decision making (155).

The behaviors in society connects with influences of the brain. For instance, In the pod cast: Dear Hector, Patrica was a victim of a psychopath who robbed, sexually assaulted, and killed her by strangling her. Iven Simpson was the psychopath, who struggled as a child and mom was abusive which was the reason for his disorders. Iven Simpson is like a lot of men in our society. His feelings and emotions were corrupt with no morals. Many people all around the country are experiencing how to deal with the lack of emotions which causes individuals to make immortal decisions. People who lack emotions seem to prey on other’s for attention and are yearning affection. In my own community those who lack biological brain standards struggle with communicating and socializing. Many are isolated from society because there is a shortage psychologically. Lehrer highlights how a psychopath is prone to violence and they use violence to achieve a goal, which usually of the time is a poor decision. Despite the acts are violent, Lehrer stresses a psychopath has a calming effect and lacks emotions and shows no empathy for their immortal behavior.

In my community service group, I ask my group questions like: what are your values in life and what is their ultimate goal for 2018. I’ve observed that majority of their answers related towards their lively hood. This connects with Lehrer who makes it clear that the brain has mental components and the mind is an extended argument. The brain helps our decision and helps us think clear. If individuals in our society are brain washed they will not be able to think clear to survive in a nation where it’s known for its racial privileges. Every thought is processed through compartments of the brain. The brain is set up to psychologically manipulate any situation. In inner city communities like where I’m from one must be able to use their brain well to survive. For instance, as a college student I must be able to prioritize my time and money to be successful. I’ve learned that the Insula which is a brain area is responsible for making sure one is on track doing the right thing. Lehrer expresses that the Insula is responsible for decision making and realization (150). Lehrer also make an important point that: “different brain areas think differnt things, for different reasons. Feelings manage the powerful affect of behavior.” This signifies that our brain is constantly working, and is always on defense mode to let us know if we are on the right path or making the right decision. As this relates to my community outreach I notice how the minorities in my ESL class aren’t letting their emotions get in their way that will discourage them from learning English so they can one day help their children who are in American schools with their homework.

Its better to be aware of how your brain operates and how strong minded you are to succeed in life. One who has a brain disorder will have a hard time with making decisions in their life. One who is able to be a rationalized thinker and not willing to justify immoral decisions with be able to prosper in this society. One simple mistake can lead an individual locked up in prison for life. I believe one must be aware of their emotions and be able to control their feelings. In this American society the system is quick to lock a person up in a mental or criminal institution, and give individuals medications to help balance the chemically imbalanced dysfunctions in the brain.

Overall, in my community, I believe we need more support so that individuals aren’t letting this corrupt society pollute our minds. We must decide to make a difference and stand tall when it comes to segregation in the school system and in our society. If we don’t speak up and stand tall then that means we will be bubbling it all inside our minds until one day our emotions boil up and one day explode.
