Paths

I know the paths the roads and trails.

There are ways that I have walked
And paths I’ve travelled down
Sometimes-black clouds overhead
Dressed in a silver gown.

The glitter from the midnight sky
Studded stars of spangled light
Lift me up and let me down
Hard times to sheer delight.

The ups and downs ins and outs
Along the alleyway of life
Encountering the good times
The trouble and the strife.

Lift me up and let me down
The stumbles and the falls
Free passage down the track
Then the fortress walls.

Built up then knocked down
Regarded then discarded
Infiltrations of the mind
The palace gates unguarded.

I know the paths the roads and trails
The hills, gullies and dales
I’ve watched the landscape unfurl
Then cast her long white sails.

I’ve walked close to the precipice
And looked into the abyss
Then turned around to face myself
And reminisce forgotten bliss.
