Response to “Self-driving cars are here”
It firmly that our future is going to be autonomous, including self-driving cars, but exactly how far are we from them? By understanding and acknowledgment of this, That will help us to prepare for these changes and trends that are occurring around us.
By my understanding, the self-driving are very close to the day they are coming out. In facts, they already exist on our roads, and these cars already in service. Though some people still believe the self-driving car was still a future product. In the article “Self-driving cars are here” talked me through that the self-driving car is coming soon, and not an unreachable future. In the article the first line was about how quickly self-driving car already quietly enters everyone’s eye, “Drive.ai will offer a self-driving car service for public use in Frisco, Texas starting in July 2018.”(Ng, “Self-driving cars are here — Andrew Ng — Medium,” 2018), This says about the self-driving car is been put in services for more than two months, they were put in tests because they are ready for it. This team again proved to us that driverless car is not a futuristic AI technology, they are prepared to make our life more convenient.
He also mentions the different pros and cons about the self-driving cars comparing to the human drivers, shows that human driver is not getting abandoned so soon. ”Self-driving cars have different strengths and weaknesses than human drivers. They are always attentive, have <100 ms reaction times, and have no blind spots. On the flip side, they don’t understand certain complex situations such as a construction worker communicating using hand gestures.”, that although self-driving car reacts way faster and pay a hundred percent attention, they still have the weakness.
With self-driving cars and human drivers combined, I think our future travel of choice will be more smart and efficient. And I am thrilled we are close to the future, that having a technology like self-driving cars often showed in the movie that is implementing into the present.
