Interview of my former Uber driver friend
Cars bring us a lot of benefits, and It changes our concept about the distance between place to place. If we had to give credit to one inventor, it would probably be Karl Benz from Germany. Many suggest that he created the first real automobile in 1885/1886. While cars bring us the beneficial functions and features, also creating job opportunities, such as automobile engineer, auto salespeople, tire technician, and drivers.
Driverless cars were becoming more and more exposed to the public since the technology is nearly mature, commercialize and popularization promotion of the self-driving cars are inevitable. But what would the self-driving car impact on the job of drivers? For digging in more Deeply for this question, I decided to interview a friend of mine, for his opinions towards the self-driving cars, because he is a former uber driver for nearly a year.
At the beginning of the interview, I asked about how is like to be a driver as the job. He answered It is not pleasant to be a full-time driver, you make about 3000–5000 a month. But sometimes passengers could be Slam the door, or even scratches your door. The job also is not helpful for you for stacking up your experiences about this career you wanted to do after graduation. He also mentions this job as a somewhat good part- Time job for the student have driver’s license because this gives you a free arrangement of your time.
During the middle of the interview, He mentioned that he felt the self-driving car would not become very popular in a small time range. People would still want to hold the steering wheel on their hands because they would not trust the machines so soon. Unless after the issue with hacking and some moral problems are addressed correctly, people then will start to believe and let the car driven them.
At the last part, I asked him should we worry about the job of drivers, or do you think drivers will lose their jobs if most cars are becoming a self-driving car. He said that drivers would lose their job, but driverless vehicles, on the one hand, destroyed some position, it also created some new job opportunities for people.
During this interview, I feel my friend’s attitude towards the self-driving cars are wait and see. But also proving a point of view that, drivers will lose their jobs after the driverless vehicle came out. And My Location is, even though there are still a lot of works to do but the future of the self-driving car is coming soon, and Although self-driving cars will cause loss of some jobs, they also created new jobs.
