Autonomous Vehicle Roundup

Nissan will launch 20 autonomous vehicles by 2020. This is interesting because Nissan has (publicly, at least) been one of the less active auto manufacturers on the autonomous vehicle front.

BMW is likely cutting ties with Apple. BMWs strategy was already public, so this news is more interesting for what it implies about Apple. Apple’s radio silence on automotive development means that any news that does come out is an important marker.

Two UK firms will study autonomous vehicle fleet management. I think this is an understudied area. A big part of the value of autonomous vehicles will be their ability to intercommunicate and self-organize. At the moment, everyone is just trying to get them to not crash, but the fleet management component will loom large over time.
