Winter can feel like it lasts forever. Shorter days mean less sunlight and less time to get outside and move. Many people leave for work in the morning when it is dark and don’t return until after it is dark. They only see daylight through the window at work (if they have one).

Because of this, many people get what is called the winter blues. It can be as mild as depression to those that don’t (and won’t) get out of bed at all.

Struggling with the blues this winter? Here are some ways to help you beat them.

Don’t overindulge in food. Unfortunately, many people gain weight over the winter, due to being inside more. They also tend to overeat during the holidays and by reaching for comfort foods.

This can only make it worse, so you should continue to eat as healthy as possible. Make sure that your diet is filled with vegetables, fruits, and lean proteins.

And forget to exercise. Exercise is essential for good health, so you can’t just forget about it when you don’t get home in time to take your daily walk outside. Instead, join a gym or find a way to exercise from home. There are many different apps to keep you from getting bored while working out.
