Self-ish April Newsletter
Happy New Month!😁
It’s that time for new releases and all the goodness that Self-ish has been keeping for you. So let’s dive in, shall we?
100 and More
We recently celebrated crossing the 100th story mark and we sent out a letter to celebrate. Missed it? No worries. Here’s a link. You’ll find our roundup of some of our favorites so far.
Newbies
I’m excited to introduce you to the new kids on the block:
- Marleena Garris in her own words is a student, writer, creative and aspiring actress. She has interesting views on just about anything, and could particularly go for a taco right about now. Her debut piece is an interesting take on Entertainment’s portrayal of black female characters: We Need to Talk About Black female Stigmas
- Joan Amanwi :#Godgirl, Observer, feminist, writer, fascinated by knowledge — & advocate for happy living. Her story is about her experience at an SHR workshop: The Tweet That got me into Sex Education.
March’s Prompt
We put out a prompt in our March newsletter in honour of Women’s Month: What does Feminism mean to you? in less than 750words. Well, the guys took up the challenge and sent in some very interesting and thought-provoking work.
- Roy A. Ngansop prods our minds with Opinion and the F-Word
- Ngang God'swill N. gives an idyllic take with A lesson from my Mom
- Arnold Ngwobela made it personal with Wonder Woman
Hope these pieces give you whole new perspectives on this hotly debated issue.

April Prompt
April is National Poetry Month in the USA and has been adopted the world over to celebrate poetry. So that’s where we are taking it, with a twist of course!
The challenge: A Selfish (A Self-ish Tale), poetry style. What do I mean? How you do interprete or relate to the concept of being Selfish(-ish), pun intended 😃
No limits for word length. But we want flow, we want sass and we want mind-gasms.
Are you ready to bring it? Pieces will go up from April 24th.
