Have Faith, Not Hope
At one point in your life you’ve probably heard the saying, “Just hope for the best.” Today, right now actually, I am going to tell you why you need to adapt a mindset that is faithful, and not hopeful.
Right before we get into this, I just want to put this out there. This post is not about religious faith or hope specifically, obviously it could be read in that point of view, but this is just general faith and hope that we all seemingly have (religiously or not).
Okay, now here we go. :)
So what exactly is the difference between faith and hope, and why should we believe in faith rather than hope?
Hope is something we’ve all encountered in our lives, and it typically happens to us when some negative event has occurred to us. Hoping that somehow things will get better, that it will magically fix itself, and that everything will be okay, is exactly what hope is all about.
We hope that something good will come our way, that someone (or something) else will figure it all out for us, and so on. But, if you haven’t noticed by now what hope is all about, it’s negativity.
Hope is negative in nature, because we always hope for something to be better when things go bad. So, what exactly is faith then?
Faith is the knowing that your future will turn out just fine. That whatever happens to you was suppose to happen and that you couldn’t of done anything else differently to change the outcome.
Having faith is always full of much more positivity as it deals with realizing that you have a control over your future. Where hope is all about putting your future in someone else's hands and letting time play it out.
To recap on the difference of hope vs faith is this, hope deals with desire but you just sort of wish for it to magically appear in your life. Faith on the other hand deals with the knowing that your desire will come, and that you truly believe that it will come into your life.
As you can probably tell, hope and faith have one main thing in common, and that is they are both about the unknown. The unknowns of your future, life, and those around you.
So, why shouldn’t we just hope for the best? I know it sounds easier, I get it, but hoping for things to get better is leaving a lot of positive outcomes out of your future.
With faithfulness, you will realize that your actions, right at this very moment, will effect your future and that your actions now (if they are positive ones) will lead to the outcomes that you want in your life.
How can you actually stop relying on hope though? How do you become faithful in your life, and stop being hopeful?
Simple, believe in what you hope for. That is what faith is all about, believing that your hopes will come true, that is what faith really is. You can’t just wish for something to happen, you must truly believe that is will happen as your life plays out.
Don’t let hope take over your life and mindset, it will only waste your time while you just wait for something to come to you.
Have faith in the actions you take today, and everyday, and that you truly do have the power to change the outcome of your life. Just have faith that your positive actions will build a greater life, and then time will truly be on your side.
“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see” — Hebrews 11:1
