At the end of July, we hosted our 2020 Summer eSummit — but with a twist. Past eSummits have included more than 10 training sessions in a single day. But with this year’s shelter-in-place restrictions (we see you, screen fatigue!), we wanted to deliver a bite-sized yet just as impactful eSummit experience.

Our incredible speakers spoke on how to revitalize your business for the new season. Phoebe Sherman (Founder of Girl Gang Craft) highlighted how to craft a brand story and Lydia Martin (Founder of Banish Business Clutter) shared her tips for keeping your business clutter-free. Read on for the highlights from their talks.

Cultivating a brand story with Phoebe Sherman

Phoebe shared how creating a brand story allowed her to connect with her audience and increase sales. New to the concept? Here’s how to think about your own brand story:

Finding your voice: With so many brands to choose from, a purchase decision can come down to whether or not your customer feels connected to your brand. Luckily, everyone has a unique brand story to tell! Here are a few questions to help you find your story:

  • Why did you start your business?
  • What motivates you to build your business today?
  • What parts of your business make you feel happiest or proudest?
  • What part of your self do you want to make sure stands out?
Phoebe walks us through how to develop a brand story

Sharing your story with an “elevator pitch”: An elevator pitch is the short-and-sweet version of your story that you could share in just a few minutes. It should cover the who, what, why, and how of your business. Perfecting your elevator pitch can help you hone in on the details that are a must-have in your brand story. A great elevator pitch helps someone understand who you are and feel aligned to your business right from the get-go.

See how you can also weave your brand story into your day-to-day — in your social media posts, how you talk about your products, and how you introduce yourself to new people. You can also add it to your profile bios and About Me sections of your sites.

We’d love to know 💁‍♀:️ What’s your brand story? Have you tried practicing your elevator pitch with a friend or accountability partner?

De-clutter your business with Lydia Martin

Lydia shared how to de-clutter your business and how doing this work upfront can set you up for long-term success.

We love this quote that Lydia shared with us

Reducing physical clutter with online systems: Going paperless is a great way to (literally!) clear the clutter. But it also makes it much easier to find information and access it from wherever your day takes you. Pro tip: Don’t overhaul everything at once, which can feel very overwhelming. Instead, ask yourself: “What’s one pain-point I’ve been feeling lately?” Maybe it’s been hard to keep track of random notes you’ve written about your customers. Try switching that specific process to a new system and see how it can make your life easier.

Reducing mental clutter with a game plan: When you have a big goal in mind, it can feel out of reach when it’s not well-defined. Try to set your goals as specifically as possible (e.g.: “I want to sell $200 more than last month.” instead of “I want to sell more.”). From there, break it down into smaller milestones like scheduling specific tasks and measuring your progress over shorter periods of time (“I will check my progress every week before the end of the month to see if I’m on track.”). These small steps can help set you up to take the big leaps to get you where you want to go.

“So many of us start something and we give up before we given it a chance because we don’t see the magic or the instant results. You have to invest time in the process to see the ultimate results.” — Lydia Martin

We’d love to know 💁‍♀:️ What’s one new system you switched over to recently? How did you go about doing it?
